CHICAGO, IL: Even as the historic visit of President Barack Obama continues to make headlines across the world, Indian American physicians have recommitted to work to contribute to make healthcare in India affordable, accessible, and efficient to all of its 1.2 billion people.
India has one of the highest accident rates leading to trauma and head injury. AAPI, in collaboration with leading healthcare institutions in India and the Indian Ministry of Health has embarked on a long-term project to create awareness on the need to prevent, treat, and provide special care and rehab services to those involved in accidents.
American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), realizing this urgent need have on a new journey, committing to work towards containing trauma and brain injury and make urgent care accessible to millions who suffer and die in road accidents, said Dr Ravi Jahagirdar, President of AAPI.
“When President Obama is visiting India seeking to make a positive impact in several areas through mutual collaboration and cooperation between the two greatest democracies, we, the physicians of Indian origin stand with him, Prime Minister Modi and the people of India to do all that we can to work towards making healthcare affordable and efficient for all,” he added.
In their efforts to make a lasting imprint in this campaign, AAPI has roped in Superstar Amitabh Bachchan to be part of this campaign. “I pledge my support for these campaigns and commit myself towards the achievement of AAPI’s worthy goals. I am here with you for these campaigns and in any other campaign you might undertake and if my face and voice can be instrumental in propagating these efforts, I would gladly lend the same” the Bollywood Superstar, Amitabh Bachchan, declared reiterating his whole hearted support to AAPI’s campaign to eradicate Hepatitis and create awareness about head injury and trauma during the Global Healthcare Summit organized by AAPI in Mumbai earlier this month. He was addressing more than 500 international and local delegates who listened to him in rapt attention.
The superstar was the Chief Guest at the 9th edition of the Global Healthcare Summit (GHS) 2015 organized by the Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) in collaboration with the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from January 2nd to 4th, at the prestigious Trident Oberoi Hotel, Nariman Point, Mumbai, India. Also present as a Special Guest was His Highness Maharaja Gaj Singh of Jodhpur.
In his opening remarks, Dr Ravi Jahagirdar, President of AAPI, expressed his sincere gratitude to Amitabh Bachchan. “Your presence at the Global Healthcare Summit has only added to the prestige of this monumental event and built the foundation for us to address the serious concerns of head injury, trauma and hepatitis.
Thank you for your contribution towards creating awareness, preventing accidents and saving lives.”
Expressing confidence that the support and presence of the Bollywood star will result in the realization of the goals AAPI has set before itself, Dr Jahagirdar said, “With your good wishes, our next goal is to surge forward with innovations in medicine and academics, to build a better future, one step at a time.”
Millions of us in the country suffer from some of the disabilities and diseases that prevail, the Bollywood star told the delegates. Expressing confidence in the knowledge, skills and experiences of the Indian American physicians, the Bollywood Superstar said, “I am quite certain that with your expertise and the skills that you possess we shall be able to eradicate most of what you have come here for.”
In a similar manner, Bachchan expressed hope that the new initiatives by AAPI will succeed. “I am quite certain, with the kind of help and expertise that we have on hand, and with the kind of backing, and hopefully with my involvement as far as my face and my voice is concerned, we shall be able to handle the other program that you have brought here: Hepatitis.”
His Highness the Maharaja Gaj Singh II of Marwar-Jodhpur, while lauding the efforts of AAPI, shared with the audience how his own son had suffered head injury and was able to stay alive and continue his active life after timely intervention and treatment along with prayers and blessings from God.
He whole heartedly supported the AAPI initiatives and commented Superstar Amitabh Bachchan for his agreeing to be the face of AAPI’s Campaign to create awareness of the need to eradicate Hepatitis and prevent trauma and head injury.
Dr Seema Jain, President-Elect of AAPI, while proposing vote of thanks, stated that AAPI is taking on this challenge and will work together and do all that we can to eradicate Hepatitis and create awareness about and ways to prevent head injury and trauma.
“Through his continued support for AAPI, the most admired and evergreen Bollywood star will promote the most innovative, efficient and cost effective healthcare solutions for India,” Dr. Jahagirdar added.
