CHICAGO: In the wake of the recent wave of violence across USA, the Art of Living Foundation (AOLF) has announced launching a powerful movement, Non-Violence: No Higher Calling with events scheduled for major cities across the country.
The mission of this movement is to create waves of non-violence across the country. The Chicago event will be held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont the evening of Thursday, March 28th at 7:30 pm.
This event is open to the public, tickets are $25. With the Windy City’s escalating gun violence reaching epidemic proportions, there have now been more deaths by gun violence in Chicago than deaths of US troops in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.
With this NonVio campaign ( www.nonvio.org) it is sought to counter this outrage. The campaign is so designed that people can participate wherever they are in the country. It is planned that that the outraged people commit up to 100 acts of non-violence for every act of violence in the US. “Our goal is to reach one billion acts of non-violence by the end of March, when the founder of the Art of Living Foundation, renowned spiritual leader, humanitarian and ambassador for peace Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, arrives here,” according to AOLF sources.
Sri Sri, who twice has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, holds a vision to create a stress-free, violence-free society through transformational personal development programs and global service projects in over 150 countries worldwide. Under his leadership groundbreaking work is being done through sister organization International Association for Human Values (IAHV) with veterans suffering from PTSD, prison inmates locally including those at Stateville Correctional Center and the Cook County Jail, and students through YES!
In the Schools Program (Youth Empowerment Seminar) locally includes those at Instituto Health Sciences Career Academy, Golder College Preparatory, Jahn Elementary School, Gary Comer College Preparatory and Walt Disney Magnet School. Sri Sri says, “The Wright brothers appeared crazy before they flew. I have this crazy idea – a world without violence. With all the violence in the world this idea may appear to be hoping for Utopia, but we need to dream, and we will get there. The time has come for the voice of non-violence to be heard loud and clear,” he observed.
Sri Sri Ravshanker would come here to address the Rosemont gathering on March 28th on the topic: Solutions to Violence in the USA. “Everyone is invited to come together with like-minded people and enjoy this evening of meditation, music and wisdom setting off waves of non-violence throughout our city, our country and our world,” said a news release from AOLF.
Besides Chicago, AOLF has planned meets in San Diego, Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC, Atlanta and Boone in North Carolina. Sri Sri is scheduled to go to these cities to give a big push to the concept of the non violence movement.
