CHICAGO: In the upcoming general election on Tuesday November 6 Illinois residents will vote to decide the next Governor along with many other offices in the State.
Asian Americans are the fastest growing racial population in Illinois and with over 350,000 Asian Americans in Cook County, and over 100,000 in DuPage County, our community has an opportunity to play a big role in local races across the state for seats in Congress, the Illinois Senate, and the Illinois House.
South Asian American voters in particular will be able to exercise their power this election by making their voice heard on issues such as family-based immigration, healthcare, and a fair tax system. Registered voters can head to the polls across Chicago and the suburbs right now for Early Voting. Early Voting will be available over this weekend (Saturday, November 3 as well as Sunday, November 4) in addition to Monday, November 5, the day before the election.Voting is also available at your local precinct on Election Day, November 6, from 6 am to 7 pm. You do not need an I.D. to vote on early or on Election Day.
If you are eligible to vote but not registered, you can utilize Grace Period Registration at any early voting location in your jurisdiction (such as DuPage County, suburban Cook County, or the City of Chicago). You can register and vote the same day with two forms of identification, one of which must have your current address. You can also register to vote on Election Day at your local precinct.
Additionally, Advancing Justice Chicago will partner with the Asian American Bar Association and CAIR-Chicago to monitor precincts on November 6 to protect Asian American and immigrant community voting rights. To report issues at your polling site on Election Day, please call Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago at 773-271-0899.
