CHICAGO: Indian Americans from various organizations came out for a candlelight vigil in the suburb of Chicago, Naperville to commemorate 30 years of exodus of Kashmiri pandit from the valley.
There was heart-wrenching stories from daughters of Kashmir Pandits who have faced the atrocities first hand. The biggest betrayal was from their neighbours and friends from the majority community who had come out on the streets not to help but shout the slogans against them in a nutshell that seared their lives forever.
Several community leaders spoke about the failure of the Government in 1990 and observed how things are changing. They hoped that such awful things would never be allowed to happen again in India.
The gathering of almost 120 people paid homage to all those who have lost their lives in the last 30 years of the struggle. The vigil program ended with a poem of hope that the Kashmiri Pandits would go back home soon.
