CHICAGO: Cbazaar, one of the biggest online shopping portals for ethnic Indian dress and jewelry, was in Chicago recently with a mini-exhibition of its wares at Double Tree Hilton in Schaumburg.
The one-day exhibition with limited display of some of its popular items – salwar kameez, sarees and men’s wear – attracted a good number of visitors and potential buyers. This was enough of a market feel for Ashok Nageswarn, its local chief, to say that “we would again comeback to Chicago in near future – sometime in July.”
Shoppers and visitors numbering over 100 made a relatively hefty purchase of over $10k with pending orders for silk sarees and other wears around the same amount. The US facility of Cbazaar already had a few exhibitions in the East Coast and plan to go Houston and West coast soon for similar displays, said Ashok in a talk to this paper.
Launched in Chennai a decade and half ago as an online gifting solution and later foraying into apparel, the brand gained popularity with time and diversified its product range from wedding sarees, salwar kameez, and ghagra choli to ethnic wear for men and children, as well as fashion accessories. The products are delivered to more than 50 countries, said Ashok.
The online shopping portal houses one of the largest ranges of Indian couture, with more than 15,000 items. On an average, over 100 designs are added every day.
In 2013, Cbazaar introduced Bollywood-inspired collections, and became the official online shopping partner of many movies. It also offers a collection inspired by Bengali films.
Sensing client base in USA, it has opened facilities in this country too and is now intensively this market. “We would surely succeed here,” Ashok pointed out, “as our products are of top quality and prices relatively cheap compared to others.”
