RANCHI: The Centre is ready to forgive and accept back those youth who were misguided to take the path of violence, Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said today.
“Violence is not the solution to any problem… few of our youths adopted path of violence under a misguided philosophy,” he said.
Shinde was speaking at the 28th Convocation of Ranchi University here, without naming any extremist outfit in Jharkhand, where 20 of 24 districts were Maoist-affected.
“They are one among us and we are ready to forgive them and accept them back provided they shun the path of violence,” he said, quoting Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence.
Shinde said the Centre was continuously making efforts in this direction by formulating various schemes.
Stating that the government was committed to development of all sections of the society, he mentioned efforts in the field of education, health, creation of employment and infrastructure.
“While I speak about development, I just don’t refer to rising GDP. What I want is, wholesome development which means access to basic amenities, for example, education, medical facilities, communication and employment to all the citizens of this country,” he said.
“I urge the youth to come forward and break the barriers of caste and creed and remove all existing evils of society,” Shinde said. Noting that knowledge is power, Shinde said “This power has to be generated through good academic grooming.
“Learning the use of cutting edge technology, entrepreneurial and moral leadership should be the focus…we need to have vision to achieve sustainable development of the country which is strong, progressive and vibrant,” he said.
“It must balance and synergize divergent views and forces that compete in the pursuit of self-fulfillment.”
He said that vision should be based on an objective assessment of facts and a realistic appraisal of possibilities, yet it must rise beyond the limitations of past trends, immediate preoccupations and pressing challenges to perceive the emerging opportunities and untapped potential.
Pointing out that a powerful set of catalytic forces were accelerating the speed of social change throughout the nation in high rates of technology innovation and application, he urged students to go anywhere in the world to enrich their knowledge, but “include an important agenda to contribute all your might for the development of your motherland.”
Shinde told the students that occasionally they would face frustrations and failures, but they should remember that these are a part of life and were stepping stones to future success.
“It is important to be a person of value as much as to be a person of success. I sincerely believe that the knowledge which you gained and the values you inherited will not only promote your well-being but more importantly will be used to contribute toward the benefit and betterment of the entire society,” he said.–PTI
