CHICAGO: Members of Indian community, led by Iftekhar Shareef, a community activist and Trustee chair of the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), hosted a dinner reception for Kalvakuntla Kavitha, an activist for women and Indian parliamentary member from Telangana last week at his residence in Lennon Park. It was attended by elites from Indian American community.
Indian Consul General Dr Ausaf Sayeed and Indian American candidate for US Congress, Raja Krishnamurthy were guests of honor for the event.
Welcoming and introducing the MP, Iftekhar Shareef also offered his thanks to all for joining the reception. Shareef said that K Kavitha is the daughter of Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Kavitha is also known for her active participation in Telangana separation movement. She is also founder of Telangana Jagruthi, a women development movement initiated for education and financial emancipation of women, which is now a household name in the Telangana region.
MP K Kavitha thanked Iftekhar Shareef and Indian Consul General Dr Ausaf Sayeed for giving her an opportunity to meet and know Indian American community in Chicago. She said she was working on research and development projects and seeking investments from Indian Americans. She briefly dwelt on her active political and development programs for Telangana state.
Jagruthi played a pivotal role in restoring the glory of Bathukamma festival and transforming it into a cultural symbol of Telangana. Iftekhar Shareef remarked that it was an honor meeting a dynamic woman activist who is visiting Chicago and seeking investment for the development of Telangana. He also informed members of Indian community that Kavitha planned to bring famous Telugu fun festival Bangaru Batukamma in popular liking as the Gujarati Dandiya festival.
Later, Indian Consul General Dr Ausaf Sayeed, FIA President Keerthi Kumar Ravoori and Iftekhar Shareef honored the visiting guest MP Kavitha with a flower bouquet and a Kashmiri shawl.
