NEW YORK: The Consulate General of India in New York organized a reception-cum-dinner at the Consulate Ballroom in honor of India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Preenet Kaur, to meet members of the Indian-American community as well as the media on October 18. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion included Anand Kumar, MP and former minister, Derek O’Brien, MP, and Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri, Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations. Over 80 people, including leading Indian Americans, entrepreneurs, professionals and members of the media attended the function.
Consul General Prabhu Dayal said the Consulate has had the privilege of hosting her at the Consulate during her previous visits to USA and thanked her for gracing the occasion despite her busy schedule. Admiring her valuable contribution in the Ministry of External Affairs, he highlighted the welfare measures initiated by her in the Ministry. He also warmly welcomed Anand Kumar and Derek O’Brien.
Ms Preenet Kaur, while thanking Ambassador Dayal for hosting an impressive event which enabled her to meet the vibrant Indian-American community, eulogized the Diaspora for playing a stellar role in improving relations between India and USA. Commenting on the Indian economy, she said she was highly optimistic about Indian economy’s resurgence, despite a temporary slowdown.
Admitting that, unlike the first global economic meltdown in 2008, the second one has somewhat affected the nation, she expressed her optimism in the resilience of the Indian economy. Stating that she was proud of being an Indian, she advised all to uphold the honor and dignity of India and the first priority should be given to the motherland.
Anand Kumar and Derek O’Brien, in their brief speeches, thanked Ambassador Dayal for providing an opportunity to meet the Diaspora. Both of them referred to the vibrancy of the Indian democracy and its economic resilience.
