The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has produced a video Public Service Announcement intended to keep those celebrating the Hindu-American festival season safe.

The video stars two prosecutors, Sandip Patel and Shanthi Rajagopalan, reminiscing about their own festival season experiences. They ask the community to be vigilant and to call 911 if they suspect or see any potential crimes.

There has been opportunistic crime aimed at the Hindu-American community during festivals such as Diwali.

“My Office will prosecute and hold accountable those who attack or target the Hindu community,” DA Jeff Rosen said. “We are here for you. I wish you a safe festival season filled with light, laughter, and love.”

In 2022, the DA’s Office successfully prosecuted a man for hate crimes after he we went on a violent two-month crime spree targeting at least 14 South Asian women and tearing jewelry off their necks.

Last year, the Office charged a man for a series of Hindu temple break-ins. In one instance, he broke into a temple in Sunnyvale three times and stole more than $40,000 in donations.
