Justice Dipak Misra recently swore as the new Chief Justice of India. The ceremony took place at the Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan, where the Indian President, Ramnath Kovind administered the oath of office to Misra. He took the oath in English in the name of God.
Succeeding Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, Misra was a part of the bench that confirmed the death sentence of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape case. Apart from that, he passed the order of mandatory playing the National Anthem in all cinema halls.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a number of union ministers were at the ceremony.
Apart from that, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad also attended the oath ceremony. –News Source
