CHICAGO: Federation of Indian Associations-Chicago [FIA] will host a spectacular India Independence Day Parade on Saturday August 15 at 11:30 am on the newly-refurbished stretch of Devon Ave in Chicago with a host of high-level elected officials, celebrities and dignitaries in the lead.
The marching bands and colorful floats each uniquely depicting the distinctive culture of various hues and traditions of India. The parade will be led under the chair of Smita Shah complemented by the efforts of Parade Co-Chair Syed Hussaini. Parade Manager Kanti Patel and Anil Pillai will render logistic help.
Dr Indrajit Patel, FIA President is expecting a large turnout for this grand parade reflective of the passionate spirit for the motherland. He said that this year he is extremely proud to enlist the support of a wide range of sponsors.
The India Independence Day Gala Banquet on Friday August 14- 6:30 pm at the Meadows Club will serve as an enthusiastic precursor for the grand weekend festivities. The evening ceremonies will also have the presentation of community awards recognizing prominent figures who have made indelible community contributions.
For the first time – in partnership with the Office of the India Consulate in Chicago – FIA will jointly host India Flag-hoisting ceremony on August 15 at 9 am on the Daley Plaza in downtown Chicago.
CG Dr Ausaf Sayeed will do the flag-hoisting accompanied with the national salute and the singing of the national anthems of both India and the USA. Chairman Iftekhar Shareef along with his team is working to put together patriotic-themed cultural dance presentations.
