CHICAGO: Punjabi Academy of Chicago will celebrate the Opening of Shri Kartarpur corridor April 20 at Palatine Public library in Palatine, a northwest suburb of Chicago with Global Punjabi Milaap.
The Pakistan Heritage and Cultural Association (PHACA) and Navraaz Kaur Productions International (NKPI) are THE cosponsors of the event.
“We have been hosting Global Punjabi Milaap since 2003 and praying for the opening of borders between India and Pakistan even before that. Now we are seeing some results”, said Sajid Chaudhry, co-host of Milaap.
Chaudhry seeks to bring together people from Pakistan and India. They became Pug Vatt Bhra (brothers with the exchange of turban), a tradition, according to which you know someone so good that you become very close to him or her and stand by through thick and thin.
Milaap has also touched upon various common subjects from time to time be it culture, language, common heritage or writings of Punjabi poets like Waris Shah and Baba Bulleh Shah. This year, topic is “Opening of Shri Kartarpur Corridor”. The event will have discussion on the historical importance of Shri Kartarpur Sahib, social, political, economic and psychological impacts of easing up of borders. The organizers and participants will also talk about the role of the media.
Part of the program will also be dedicated to Sardar Jagindar Singh Ramdev who passed away March 23 in the morning. He was the main reason why Milaap was started. He was born in Emnabad, Pakistan. Except his mother and him, his whole family was killed in 1947. After that, they moved to Taran Tarn Sahib in India. He always talked about his family life in Pakistan and Milaap became a platform to bring people together after the partition of India and Pakistan.
Ramdev was keynote speaker for Milaap many times. He was also asked at times to check papers of Ph.D. students of library science. He started SATKAL trust in memory of his late wife to promote library science. Now the trust has gone global and helps library students reach their goals. He gave lectures many times about Sikh religion at inter-faith programs..
