The 100,000 SF+ Fremont Location Will Be Largest in California and Introduce New Store and Dining Concepts

FREMONT, CA: Vestar announced today that H Mart, the nation’s largest Asian supermarket chain, will open its largest U.S. location at Pacific Commons Shopping Center in Fremont, California. The flagship store will introduce H Mart’s brand-new multi-level prototype, featuring a food hall and dine-in restaurants in addition to its expansive grocery offering. This project represents the largest investment in the company’s history and will also be its largest store in California. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026.

The H Mart at Pacific Commons will be located in a highly visible location on the west side of the property, at the intersection of Bunche Drive and Interstate 880. The first-ever food hall will feature a curated mix of fast-casual eateries, full-service sit-down restaurants, a bar, and entertainment offerings, creating a vibrant, immersive destination that goes far beyond a traditional grocery experience. H Mart currently operates multiple locations throughout Northern California, but this will be the company’s first store in Fremont.

H Mart “This flagship H Mart further reinforces Pacific Commons as a leading retail destination in Northern California and its continued evolution into a true shopping, dining, and entertainment district.” said Rick Hearn, Vice President of Leasing for Vestar. “Together with our partners at Heitman and the City of Fremont, we are actively adapting to our consumers’ shopping preferences, focused on welcoming experiential, destination-driven concepts that energize the center and serve the broader community.”

“At H Mart, we strive to enrich lives through our Asian heritage, food, and culture, and this new location represents a bold new chapter for us.” said Brian Kwon, President of H Mart. “By blending elevated dining and community spaces, we are creating a premier destination for food lovers where diverse ethnicities of friends and neighbors can gather. Our priority is to provide the Fremont community with a convenient ‘One-Stop Shopping’ experience and high-quality food and service.”

Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan also praised the announcement and its long-term impact on Fremont’s economic vitality. “The City of Fremont is proud to welcome H Mart to our community.  Their transformative investment reflects strong confidence in Fremont and the Pacific Commons Shopping Center. This 100,000-square-foot flagship location will bring together shopping, dining, and entertainment, creating a vibrant, centralized gathering place for residents and visitors alike. The innovative reuse of a vacant large-format retail space reflects the City’s strategic commitment to reimagining vacant commercial properties into destinations that generate jobs, amenities, and lasting community value.”

Pacific Commons Shopping Center, owned by Heitman and managed by Phoenix-based Vestar, is home to more than 55 retailers and restaurants including Target, Costco, T.J. Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, and Sephora.
