FREMONT: International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8, is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. Universal Media Access’s Desi 1170 AM and U92.3 FM celebrated the ‘International Women’s Day – A Celebration for You’ on March 10 at the India Community center in Milpitas from 11am to 7pm. Health, wealth, beauty and happiness encompass a women and was a perfect theme for the grand event. Sanjiv Gupta CPA, Sankara Eye Foundation and Deepak Mantra were the platinum sponsors of the day.
Social and political empowerment is necessary for all round development of women. We must concentrate on imparting social education. It is necessary to maintain and protect chastity, dignity and modesty of women. It is the need of the hour to give due share to each and every section of women, said the organizers of the event.
There were about 20 vendor booths from all facets of life. Jewelry and fashion, a complete “women thing” were the main attraction and was thronged by ladies of all age groups. Models from Bay Area Fashion week and Nalli Silks walked the ramp. Students from local Bay area dance schools showcased their talent with “women” being the central theme.
