PHAGWARA/SULTANPUR LODHI: In a unique way to create awareness among the masses about the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev during his 550th birth anniversary celebrations, the Punjab government will organize a “Heritage Walk” November 3 at Sultanpur Lodhi, according to an official press note.
The first of its kind walk in the city to be organized by the Information and Public Relations Department, Punjab, district administration and Patiala Foundation will spread the message of preservation of heritage, clean and eco friendly environment and wiping out social ills.
Deputy Commissioner D.P.S. Kharbanda said that the 2.5-km long walk would start from Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk at Kapurthala-Sultanpur Lodhi road and cover the historic shrines like Gurdwara Anter Jamta , Gurdwara Hatt Sahib , Gurdwara Bebe Nanki and would end at Gurdwara Shri Ber Sahib . He said that historiana would inform the Sangat about the history of every gurdwara besides educating the people about the importance of Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings in modern day life to save the environment.
He also said that by keeping in view the larger participation of people in the Heritage Walk, the district administration has made adequate arrangements of security, traffic management and langar (community kitchen) at various places on the route.
Appealing to the people to participate in large numbers, the deputy commissioner said that volunteers of Patiala Foundation , students from various colleges in the city and representatives of religious and social organizations would participate in the event.
