SOMERSET, NJ: A fabulous Navratri festival was held at Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset, New Jersey on October 12 & 13 and October 19, 20. It was arranged by community leader and Navratri Raas Garba Organizer Pradip [Peter] Kothari, President of Indo American Religious and Cultural Center and Patel Brothers [Swad Brand]. The function started with auspicious lamp lighting ceremony on the decorated huge stage. Among those lighting the lamps were Mafatbhai Patel, owner and founder of Nationwide giant Patel Brothers Indian Grocery stores along with Mahendrabhai Patel, Harshadbhai Patel and other family members; Pradip Kothari & Mrs Nandini Kothari, Congressman Frank Pallone Jr., Mayor of Franklin Township Brian Levine, Dy. Mayor of Franklin Township Philip Kramer, Councilman Rajiv Prasad and other council members of Franklin Township, Edison Councilman Dr. Sudhanshu Prasad, Woodbridge Councilman Mr. Bob Luban, other elected officials, various sponsors and other community leaders.
Mr. Kothari introduced the dignitaries and spoke about his 22 years of promoting Indian/ Gujarati culture and Indian religious and traditional values as well as engaging the younger generation to this meaningful celebration. He thanked his generous sponsors.
The Navratri celebrations had a huge carpeted floor, booths selling food and other products, nice seating bleachers arrangements, tight security, ample parking, VIP lounge facility for VIP Guests with snacks and beverages and best musical group to entertain full house crowd.
The renowned singers from India with talented musicians captivated the young and energetic Raas Graba participants. Excellent sound system, four big screens displaying current Garba kept the audience enthralled.
After two marathon hour long Garba sessions, Mataji’s Arti was performed in the presence of honorable guests, VIPS, sponsors and public at large. Post Arti was the mesmerizing Raas and Dandia session. Hundreds of nicely dressed young and old enjoyed the world famous Dandia Raas.
