CHICAGO: Indo American Democratic Organization (IADO) has slated its annual dinner on Sunday, September 23 at Holiday Inn Chicago North Shore at 5-30 pm.
IADO, a political outfit of Indian American community believing in democratic values, has been aiding the political empowerment for the Indian American community for the past 33 years. It was founded in 1980 with the aim of being a unified voice for the Indian American community and to encourage Indian Americans to participate in the political process. IADO has lobbied the government on various issues affecting the Indian community like changes in immigration laws to make them fairer, ending job discrimination, inducing greater participation of the community in mainstream politics and working to improve the representation of Indian Americans in government.
“We have been successful in registering tens of thousands of Indian Americans to vote, conducted candidate forums during election years, provided endorsements for candidates and worked on numerous campaigns for candidates running for local, state, and federal office. We were early advocates for “hate crime” legislation and will pursue the cause even further in the light of recent events involving members of our community,” said Harendra Mangrola, IADO President.
“On Sunday, September 23, IADO will be hosting its 33rd Annual Banquet at the Holiday Inn Chicago in Skokie, and we expect a sizeable participation of elected officials of the government at local State and Federal level,” Mangrola said. Doors open at 5:30pm with dinner beginning at 6:30pm. Invited speakers include: U. Senator Dick Durbin (IL), Lt. Col. Tammy Duckworth, California Attorney General Kamala Harris, and others.
