PHAGWARA: Cambridge International School (CIS), Phagwara held its annual Sports Meet here on December 14. Mr Naunihal Singh, I.P.S., Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jalandhar Range, was the Chief Guest.
He opened the Meet by unfurling tri-color and releasing balloons. He took salute from inter-house march past.
Accompanied by School Chairman K.S. Bassi, a Dubai-based business magnate, IG inspected the parade standing on an open jeep. A flame of peace and harmony was lit on this occasion. The school band played melodious tunes.
In his brief but impressive inaugural address, IG Naunihal Singh underscored the significance of sports. Quoting the maxim of a healthy mind in a healthy body, the IG said that the concept of fitness and spirit of team work were taught by sports.
He was feted with a glittering memento by School Chairman K.S. Bassi and Vice-Chairperson Jassi Bassi. Students Council also honored Bassi couple and their daughter Komal Bassi by presenting them bouquets.
After it, students of four Houses, all named after huge trees to signify the magnitude of nature, took part in various sports and cultural events. The names included Oak, Cedar, Maple and Pine.
Hundreds of students took part in mass display of talent and prowess.
Athletics events for both students and parents, Zumba, Aerobics, mass PT, Grand Finale marked the Meet. Colorful dazzling dresses of participants mesmerized everyone.
Callisthenic sessions in groups, performed by following a leader in moving to a rhythmic musical accompaniment in aerobics exercises, were cynosure of all eyes.
Trophies and medals were given to winners. Head girl Gurleen Kaur and Guneet Kaur anchored the program beautifully. Head girl Gurleen Kaur and Head boy Sanmit Singh held aloft the national flag at the grand finale with all the participants assembled together.
The festive Meet concluded with the national anthem.
Phagwara S.P. Mandeep Singh Gill, S.D.M. Dr (Mrs) Sumit Mudh, School Managing Director K.S. Bains, I-League Education top brass Sanjiv Bansal and Raghav Bansal and Principal Zoravar Singh were also present.
