WASHINGTON: India is “doing great” but no one talks about it, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, known for his critical views on developing countries like China and Mexico, has said.
“India is doing great,” Trump told CNN. This is for the first time Trump has given a glimpse of his views about India since launching his presidential campaign last year.
Trump, 69, has been openly critical about many countries like China, Mexico and Japan in many of his speeches.
Trump made the remarks in response to a question on America’s standing in the world and a similar interview he gave to CNN in September, 2007.
“That was the beginning of China. That was the beginning of India, when India – by the way, India is doing great. Nobody talks about it. And I have big jobs going up in India. But India is doing great,” Trump said.
Trump has a number of real estate interests in India.
“Look at everything I told you. Everything I told you is all right, whether it’s Iraq, whether it’s Iran, whether it’s China, whether it’s India, whether it’s Japan,” Trump said.
“Just look at this country. We have gone from this tremendous power that was respected all over the world to somewhat of a laughing stock,” he had then told the CNN.
“All of a sudden, people are talking about China and India and other places, even from an economic standpoint.
America has come down a long way, a long way. The United States has come down a long way, and it’s very, very sad.
We’re not respected,” Trump had said.–PTI
