WINCHESTER: An impactful afternoon Meet & Greet and Fundraiser was hosted in Winchester, Massachusetts by Ramesh Viswanath Kapur, along with Vikram Rajadhyashka, Nar Koppula, Shirish Nimgaonkar, Dr. Anahita Dua, Dr. Suhas Desai, Dr. Lakshmi Thalanki, Prabhu Rao, Dr. Megha Joshi, and Priya Samant, in strong support of Raja Krishnamoorthi, who is seeking to make history as the first United States Senator of Indian origin.

The event brought together a powerful coalition of prominent business owners and community leaders from Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Ohio, reflecting a unified Indian American voice rallying behind a candidate whose life story embodies the promise of America and the strength of its immigrant communities. The fundraiser successfully raised $50,000, underscoring growing national momentum behind Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s Senate campaign.

Born in India, Congressman Krishnamoorthi immigrated to the United States with his family and spent part of his childhood in Buffalo, New York, where they lived in public housing and relied briefly on food stamps. He has often spoken with gratitude about the opportunities America afforded his family. They later moved to Peoria, Illinois, a community that shaped his values of hard work, integrity, and service.

A lawyer by training, Krishnamoorthi began his career in anticorruption and public accountability, protecting taxpayer interests and strengthening ethical governance. He later entered the private sector, running a small business for seven years and gaining firsthand insight into the challenges facing entrepreneurs and working families.

In 2016, he was elected to represent Illinois’ 8th Congressional District, home to one of the nation’s most vibrant South Asian (“desi”) communities. Since then, he has been reelected five times, earning bipartisan respect for his leadership on consumer protection, national security, economic opportunity, and good governance.

With Senator Dick Durbin announcing he will not seek reelection, Congressman Krishnamoorthi is now pursuing the U.S. Senate seat—seeking not only to serve Illinois, but also to break the “brown ceiling” and expand Indian American representation at the highest level of American democracy.

The Winchester gathering was attended by distinguished community leaders, including Rajender Dichpally; Americans for Hindus PAC Massachusetts Chapter President Pramit Makody; Americans for Hindus PAC Massachusetts Chapter Executive Director Dr. Lakshmi Thalanki; Healthcare For Action PAC Founder Dr. Anahita Dua; Sanjay Gokhale; Anand Sharma; Susan Kapur; Ram Gupta; respected media veteran Upendra Mishra; and Narsing Konduru, among many others.

Multiple PACs and local organizations were represented, highlighting the growing political engagement and organizational strength of the Indian American community. Attendees emphasized the importance of unity and collective action to support leaders who reflect shared values of inclusion, integrity, and service.

Adding to the significance of the event was the presence of college-going youth and young professionals, who attended to learn, engage, and draw inspiration from a congressman on the verge of making history—reflecting a generational shift toward civic engagement and leadership within the Indian American community.

“This campaign is about more than an election—it’s about representation, gratitude, and giving back to a country that makes opportunity possible,” said host Ramesh Viswanath Kapur. “Raja Krishnamoorthi’s journey resonates deeply with immigrant families across America.”

The Winchester fundraiser marked a defining moment for the Indian American diaspora—demonstrating unity, confidence, and readiness to help shape the future of American leadership. As Congressman Krishnamoorthi advances in his U.S. Senate campaign, the broad-based support reflected at this event signals a community prepared to help make history.
