NAPERVILLE: Next week a new Mayor of Naperville will be elected for the first time in 20 years. Among the front runners for the coveted post is a lifelong Naperville resident, local business owner and current member of City Council, Steve Chirico, who has recently been endorsed by Indian American Republican Organization (IARO).
Because of Chirico’s plan for responsible economic development, vision for the future of Naperville and commitment to maintaining property taxes, he has been endorsed by IARO.
“I am honored to have received this endorsement from the IARO,” Chirico said. “The IARO is an esteemed organization in our community and I fully appreciate the consideration that was put into endorsing me for Mayor of Naperville.”
Recognized for his visionary leadership, passion for community service and strategy for ensuring the future of our great schools and safe neighborhoods, Chirico has also been endorsed by The Daily Herald, Naperville Fraternal Order of Police and Naperville’s Professional Firefighters.
Raised in Naperville, Chirico graduated from Naperville Central and went on to attend Northern Illinois University. While working his way through school, he started a small tile shop in Naperville called Great Western Tile; now known as Great Western Flooring – one of the area’s leading specialty flooring stores.
In 2011 Chirico was elected to the Naperville City Council. His desire to serve the town in which he grew up was encouraged by his wife Julie and family. As Councilman Chirico has worked to support initiatives designed to thoughtfully drive Naperville into the next generation. His record shows a focus on fiscal responsibility, economic development and continued safety for our evolving community.
Now, after serving on City Council, Chirico is poised to serve Naperville as the next Mayor. “I am running for Mayor because I want to help Naperville continue to thrive,” explained Chirico. “Naperville is at a defining moment in time. We need to protect our rich history yet have the vision to shape the next generation of prosperity.”
A visionary leader
Like many residents, Chirico is concerned about Naperville’s debt which has ballooned over the past 10 years. As Mayor, his top priority will be to plan for reducing the debt and invest in our city using savings.
While serving on City Council, Chirico and Councilman Fieseler led the charge to apply the 2013 budget surplus to public safety pension debt. As a result Naperville will have their public safety pension fully funded by 2027. This means Naperville may be the first major city in Illinois to fully fund our public safety pension which would free up $15 million in expenses annually.
Chirico also understands the importance of a well-balanced community. A community with a strong business climate and a plan for economic development can provide residents with essential amenities like quality schools and safe neighborhoods while maintaining the best property value as taxes are kept in check.
Chirico encourages all residents to learn more about his voting record, plans to keep a tight rein on property taxes and commitment to shaping the future of Naperville together with the community at www.chiricoformayor.com.
“As you head to the polls, please keep the facts and endorsements in mind,” Chirico said. “And remember to vote for Steve Chirico on April 7.”
Chirico and his wife Julie have seven children – all graduates of Naperville School Districts 203 and 204.
