CHICAGO: Indian Americans here stand in solidarity with the people of Pakistan during a torrential monsoon season with devastating flooding that has led to the deaths of more than 1,160 people and left 3,500 injured over the course of the last three months.
The government estimates that around 33 million people, or 1 in 7 people, have been affected by the worst flooding in decades, and more than a million people have lost their homes. Also, more than 2 million acres of farmlands have been damaged — a significant loss with the agricultural sector employing more than a third of the nation’s workers.
They extend our heartfelt support for those in Pakistan who are facing hardship and loss, as well as for the Pakistani-American community and the difficult ordeal they are experiencing with any loved ones in the region.
