NEW DELHI: After producing ad films to woo foreign tourists to India, the Union Tourism Ministry will now bring out promotional videos to target globetrotting Indians urging them to travel within the country instead, Minister K J Alphons has said.
The ministry had earlier, through Parayatan Parv (tourism festival), tried to attract the countrymen to spend their holidays in India instead of going abroad. All state governments as well as 18 central ministries had participated in the event last year. “Indians are travelling all across the world. While we want them to get that exposure and experience it, we also want them to travel in India.
“We are in the process of making a promo on why Indians should come to India and another one on why NRIs should come to India. Bharatbala is making the videos,” said Alphons at a press meeting here. Earlier, the promos, targeting foreign tourists, focused on Yoga, Ayurveda, Indian cuisines, culture and heritage, cruise tourism, eco and adventure tourism.
According to statistics from the tourism sector, India will account for around 50 million outbound tourists by 2020, some of whom the ministry wants to convert into domestic tourists. PTI
