NEW DELHI: Terming Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal’s comments on media as irresponsible, the Broadcast Editors’ Association today said such “vague and sweeping” allegations were aimed at diluting the credibility of media which is discharging its responsibility in a fair and objective manner.
It said any aggrieved person should approach the self regulatory institutions in media with specific complaints and evidence.
“BEA condemns Arvind Kejriwal’s irresponsible statement on media. BEA believes that electronic media is discharging its responsibility in a fair and objective manner,” a statement released here said.
The Association said that it was wrong to say that TV channels are pursuing a biased agenda in favor of any person or party.
BEA believes that such attempts are a conspiracy to dilute the credibility of media, it added.
“We have strong faith in the self regulatory institutions that electronic media has developed and would request any aggrieved person to approach them with specific complaints and evidence. Vague and sweeping allegations is a sign of weakness,” the statement released in the name of BEA President Shazi Zaman and General Secretary N K Singh said.
The BEA has amongst its members editors of various leading news-channels.
Earlier triggering a fresh controversy, Kejriwal had in a video aired by a news-channel alleged that the whole media is “sold” and “heavy amounts” have been paid to promote BJP’s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi.
He later denied having made the accusations against the media after his remarks came under attack from various quarters.–PTI
