FREMONT: Kewal Singh, a Transit Safety Administrator for the BART system and Fremont resident for the past 22 years, is running for AC Transit Ward 5, which covers Fremont, Newark, and parts of Union City and Hayward. Kewal’s top priority is ensuring that AC Transit is safe, affordable, and reliable for seniors, people with disabilities, and students.
“40% of AC Transit’s riders rely on public transit as their only mode of transportation,” said Singh. “I know from personal experience just how important reliable bus service is; my mother, my children, and myself are all AC Transit riders. Our bus service needs to improve and that’s why I’m running.”
Singh noted that AC Transit’s budget is improving and that he believes the Tri-Cities need a Director who can work together with the AC Transit Board, labor unions, and other elected officials, which he claims the current Director has failed to do.
He pointed to his endorsements from the Alameda County Democratic Party, the Tri-Cities Democratic Forum, and many local elected officials, including former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce Ro Khanna, Fremont Vice Mayor Vinnie Bacon, Fremont Councilmember Raj Salwan, and Union City Mayor Carol Dutra-Vernacci.
Singh also earned endorsements from Senator Ellen M. Corbett, Council Member Kansen Chu, Assembly Member Bob Wieckowski, Library Commissioner Deepak Chhabra, Human Resources Commissioner Fremont Dharminder Dewan, Evolve’ Board Of Directors, Rick Jones Planning Commissioner in Fremont
“Every AC Transit Director needs to listen to residents, riders, and businesses, and to work collaboratively with the rest of the Board. I’ve gained broad support for my run against an 8-year incumbent because we can do better. We have to do better.”
