CHICAGO: The Indo-American Democratic Organization (IADO) one of the oldest Indian American bodies in Chicagoland, announced that it will be hosting its 41st Annual Banquet after a two-year break due to COVID.
The fundraising gala will be on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at the Holiday Inn, North Shore, located in Skokie, Illinois. This year’s Keynote Speaker will be Gold Star Father and 2022 Presidential Medal of Freedom awardee, Khizr Khan.
Khan is the father of the late U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan who was sadly killed in 2004 in a suicide explosion in Iraq.
During the 2016 Democratic National Convention, Khan with his wife Ghazala beside him, held up his pocket U.S. Constitution and opposed then-Republican nominee Donald Trump’s proposed policies. Since then, he has been a strong and unwavering national voice for religious liberty and minority rights. In 2021, Khan was appointed by President Joe Biden to serve on the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom.
“We are honored that Khan will be attending this year’s banquet and delivering the Keynote address. He has a story unlike any other and in the world we are living in today, we thought his message would bear weight ahead of the November midterm elections,” shared Shajan Kuriakose, President of IADO. The organization is doubling down efforts for November after huge wins in the 2022 Illinois Primaries. Their support contributed towards the victories of Illinois House, 16th District candidate, Kevin Olickal, Illinois House, 51st District, Nabeela Syed, Cook County Circuit Court Judge candidate, Rena Van Tine and 9th Judicial Sub-Circuit candidate, Sanjay Tailor along with many others state wide.
The Indo-American Democratic Organization (IADO) was established in 1980 and is the oldest South Asian American political action committee in the country IADO engages South Asian Americans in the political process, recruits and endorses candidates for public office, and advocates for progressive policy solutions for South Asian Americans, immigrants.
