FREMONT: Ro Khanna’s candidacy and platform for supporting small business has received the endorsement of many local small business owners. Ro for Congress will also be announcing the formation of its Small Business Advisory Council, which will provide insight and counsel to Ro on the interests of small businesses in California’s 17th district. Ro’s five small business priorities include:
1. Hiring credit for businesses in areas with high unemployment and poverty rates that hire long-term unemployed workers, unemployed veterans, and people receiving the federal earned income tax credit.
2. Help businesses navigate federal regulations by providing resources that help them estimate compliance costs and streamline implementation.
3. Access to capital for small businesses, especially early on, so they can set up the infrastructure to begin expanding and exporting their products overseas.
4. Incentivize established business owners to mentor the next generation of small business leaders because the greatest decline in entrepreneurial activity in the recession occurred in the 18-24 age group.
5. Increase funding for the Manufacturing Extension Project and the Small Business Administration to provide vital support for small manufacturers as they try to expand their business and access markets overseas.
“I am extremely grateful to receive the support of so many small business leaders in our community,” said Khanna. “My campaign is about bringing the vibrancy and ingenuity of Silicon Valley to Washington. Part of this is recognizing that small businesses play an enormous part in cultivating and sustaining Silicon Valley’s forward thinking culture.
“I am proud to release my set of five priorities for supporting small business, and I will continue to seek common-sense solutions aimed at helping new businesses get a start, expanding good paying jobs, and supporting businesses as they compete in today’s global economy.”
“I am so excited to support Ro in his run for Congress,” said Peter Lim, S L Carter Press & Service. “As a proud small business owner in San Jose, all I want is the opportunity to keep serving my loyal consumers. Sometimes it’s frustrating to hear all the grandstanding in Congress when normal people are struggling to make ends meet – to make payroll and ensure that our employees aren’t laid off. Ro has a vision that I believe will help me stay in business and help other aspiring business owners get their ideas off the ground.”
“I own a business that is committed to hiring returning veterans and providing them with stable jobs so that they can play an integral role in growing our economy,” said Dave Hoemberg, owner of USA Reclamation and Recycling. “Ro understands that supporting small businesses is critical to addressing our country’s pervasive unemployment. To small business owners, growing the economy’ is not just a talking point. It means creating real jobs and real incomes for the people who need them most.”
“These days I wonder if more businesses like mine will be able to get started,” Garry Singh, owner of Chaat Bhavan. “It might mean more competition down the road. But at the end of the day, I have had the opportunity to live out my dreams by starting and running a business and Ro will fight to make sure others can do the same. If you own a business, Ro is your candidate. If you are yet to start your dream company, Ro will fight to make sure it happens.”
