CHICAGO: Mahavira Jayanti also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak is the most auspicious and an annually celebrated event among Jains across the world and hence, the Jain Community of Lake County cannot be an exception
Members of the community came together with devotional fervor to celebrate the 2613th birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir – who was the 24th Tirthankar from the line of Lord Adinath in Jainism – on Saturday, 26 April at the Hindu Mandir of Lake County.
Beautifully decked, devotees flocked the temple to offer their reverential prayers. The Mahavir Mahila Mandal of Bartlett, Illinois lead by Mrs Rashmi Shah and Mrs Sudha Shah started Bhagvan Mahavir’s birthday celebration at 2 pm with Maha Abhishekam. The sponsor families joined in melodious chanting of mantras and stavans. Mahila Mandal ladies sang many devotional, ceremonial, pleasant Bhajans and filled the temple shrine with spirituality. Some of the devotees who were so much immersed in the Bhajans got up and danced in front of Bhagvan. More than 150 devotees attended the program with religious zeal.
A 93 years old Jain scholar and publisher of Jain monthly newsletter Jain Darshan, Manu Bhai Doshi was honored during the celebrations. Pandit Anil Joshi and Pt. Ganesh offered Tilakam, Uttariya and Phalpushpma to Shri Doshi. All devotees sang ‘Dhanyavad’ song in honor of Shri Doshi for keeping them enlightened and up-to-dated with all the religious preaching of Jainism. Shri Doshi also chanted hymns melodiously and made everyone feel proud at his spiritual spirit and divine attachment to Lord Mahavir.
Maha Mangalarati was followed by mouthwatering Maha Prasadam sponsored by Parikh and Taswala families. All devotees enjoyed Prasadam prepared by Jain Temple of Bartlett, Illinois.
Mahavir Jayanti reminded and inspired all those present and others too about the principles of non-violence and right to live for all living creatures.
Mandir’s dedicated devotee and celebrated singer Mrs. Vasu Choksi anchored the program meticulously. The whole event was brilliantly organized by Umesh and Vasu Choksi and the dedicated Nitish Shah. Temple president Harsh Kumar alongwith the priests gave vote of thanks to all the Jain devotees for making this event a grand success and greeted them on this occasion.
