In a meaningful act of community service rooted in cultural values, WCN Sakha, an affiliate of the Maheshwari Mahasabha of North America (MMNA), successfully organized a Winter Jacket Drive, donating 60 winter jackets to Sacred Heart Community Service to support individuals and families facing hardship during the cold winter months.
This drive marked the first service initiative undertaken by Sakha of this chapter symbolizing a strong beginning for the group’s mission to combine cultural heritage with social responsibility. The chapters Lead Siddharth Sodhani and Co-lead Suyash Rathi planned and executed the drive along with National Sakha lead Representative Sandeep Maroo and Chapter President Sachin Dhoot. Community members came together with enthusiasm, contributing generously toward the purchase and collection of winter jackets, which were donated to Sacred Heart’s Clothing Closet program. The program provides essential clothing at no cost to those in need and plays a vital role in supporting vulnerable populations.
The initiative was guided by the core values of Seva (service), Sanskar (values), and Swasth (health)*—principles that form the foundation of both WCN Sakha and MMNA. Founded in 1983, MMNA has long worked to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Maheshwari community while also encouraging its members to actively engage in philanthropic efforts within their local communities across North America.
A notable highlight of the jacket drive was the active involvement of families and children. Young participants assisted in unloading the donated jackets and attended a brief session where representatives from Sacred Heart Community Service shared insights into their mission and the impact of community partnerships. This interaction provided a valuable learning experience for children, helping them understand the importance of empathy, generosity, and giving back to society.
Sacred Heart Community Service, whose mission is to build a community free from poverty by creating hope, opportunity, and action, expressed deep appreciation for the donation. The organization emphasized how community-driven efforts such as this play a critical role in addressing both the immediate needs and long-term challenges faced by those experiencing poverty.
The successful completion of the Winter Jacket Drive has generated a strong sense of pride within the community. Encouraged by the positive response and impact of this initiative, WCN Sakha looks forward to organizing more service activities that inspire community participation and instill values of service in future generations.
