CHICAGO: The board of Indian Community of Niles Township (ICNT) celebrated India’s 67th Republic Day on Saturday February 6 at the Morton Grove Public Library in the Baxter Auditorium with patriotic songs, cultural music and dance performances.
The initiative and inspiration behind this annual celebration has been Rohit Joshi, President of ICNT, his board members and former president Usha Kamaria.
Frigid cold weather and gusty winds did not stop patriots from attending the annual Republic Day celebration. Auditorium was full to capacity. The audience, cheering every performance and fully enjoying the event made the event most successful.
Hasmukhbhai Soni and other volunteers from United Senior Paiwar kicked off the celebration by holding Indian flags and marching in the auditorium. The auspicious lamp lighting ceremony was performed by Rohit Joshi, president of ICNT, Pramod Shah, Clerk, Village of Skokie, Charles Yi, Farmers Insurance, Dr. Hemali Shah, Care Soul Services Inc., Ralph Klein Trustee, Village of Skokie.
Rohit Joshi explained the significance of lamp lighting ceremony. Amita Bhargav, Secretary, ICNT emceed the program very well. DJ Nilesh kept the crowd entertained during the show.
The event showcased wonderful dance performances by students of the Surya Dance School and Northeastern Illinois University. Vocal performances of old, current and patriotic Bollywood songs were by Rajesh Chalam, Nipa Shah, Douce Shukla, Anirudha and Jatin Balsara. Complementary snacks boxes were served to audience.
