DEHRADUN: Former Uttarakhand chief minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank removed red beacons and hooters from his official vehicles in the light of a recent Supreme Court order limiting their use only by persons holding constitutional posts.
It is for the first time in the state that a former CM got these facilities removed from his official vehicles.
Commenting on the move, Nishank said, “A man is known by his personality and not by the red beacons fitted on his vehicles.”
Noted rights activist Avdhash Kaushal had recently written to Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna asking him to immediately withdraw such facilities being “illegally enjoyed” by former CMs in the state.
“Red beacons being illegally used by former CMs Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank, Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri and ND Tiwari should be immediately removed from their vehicles in the light of a recent order of the apex court which restricts their use only by people occupying constitutional posts,” the Padma Shree awardee rights activist had said in his letter to the CM on December 31. -PTI
