COIMBATORE: Virtually questioning the trend of return of awards by various personalities, renowned scientist and former chief of Brahmos, A Shivathanu Pillai today said such honors were given in recognition of the contributions of services rendered to the nation and once received, it was over.
“We are recognized by the government, by the nation for our services in the respective fields. Once we receive (the award) it, it is over,” he told reporters here.
He was responding to a question on the recent trend of writers, artists and filmmakers and others returning awards protesting against the government.
Moreover, the awards were given by the previous governments and this government had nothing to do with it, Pillai, a Padma Bhushan awardee in 2013, said.
Currently Distinguished Professor, ISRO, Pillai was here to participate in a school function.–PTI
