MUMBAI: In a glittering ceremony that had the audience asking for more, many Bollywood legends with their sons and daughters, took to the ramp on March 4 night for Mijwan – The Legacy, a fashion show in support of the cause of women’s empowerment.
Amitabh Bachchan and Shweta Nanda; Shatrughan and Sonakshi Sinha; Anil and Sonam Kapoor; Javed and Farhan Akhtar sashayed down the runway, and the ones to pull off this casting coup was Shabana Azmi and Manish Malhotra for their annual fashion show.
In its fourth year now, the fashion show is organized in aid of the weavers of Mijwan, a NGO founded by the late Kaifi Azmi, which is headed by Shabana and Namrata Goyal.
“Legacy is something that we either inherit from our parents, or it is the value system, and it is my father, Kaifi Azmi’s secular values that we are taking forward,” said Shabana. Added Manish, “Through this initiative, the Mijwan women got an opportunity to become independent, and I got to showcase to the world the best that our country has to offer.”
Focusing on both tradition and change, Manish interpreted Chikankari with a modern twist by incorporating floral patterns and appliqué on modern silhouettes including crop tops, skirts, jackets and saris for women and structured sherwanis, bandikurtas, bandhgalas for men.
Shankar Mahadevan, son Siddharth, and Pooja Chavan Gaitonde regaled the audience with their hit melodies as models walked down the ramp.
