CHICAGO: The king of Sufi Music, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will be returning to Chicago after a two year hiatus on May 29 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates.
The highly anticipated North American tour that began in Toronto will see Rahat traveling to various cities with the final show on June 13 in Trenton, New Jersey.
Coming of a critically-acclaimed album, “Back 2 Love” and hit single “Zaroori Tha” which has over 35 million views on YouTube, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan continues a legacy of historic proportions. News of his sellouts in Canada, Detroit, and Memphis have energized his fans in Chicago.
“Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is the stuff of legends, there are simply no western counterparts to compare him to”, observed an ardent fan, Omair Rashid. Rahat has promised fans that he will debut a new set of qawwalis and songs while also singing classics such as Teri Meri, Mast Mast Do Nain, Ore Priya, and more.
Known for transcending boundaries within the South Asian community, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a Pakistani native who has repeatedly praised Indians for embracing his music and providing a forum for his artistic skills. Nephew of legend Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, a great Sufi singer and an ardent practitioner of Qawwali, Rahat belongs to a family of musical geniuses. Rahat’s family unbroken tradition of Qawwali goes back over 600 years. Their influence can also be seen in the west as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan collaborated with Pearl Jam on the soundtrack of the hit movie Dead Man Walking.
This is the fourth event that the team at Sahil & LA TAN are bringing. In 2014 they brought Shreya Ghoshal, Sonu Nigam, and the Bollywood extravaganza SLAM! The Tour. They have revived the South Asian music scene across the Midwest. “We think we’ve become the kind of promoters that audiences can rely on and we’re always looking for opportunities to bring bigger and better things”, said Bhavesh Patel of Sahil.
