CHICAGO: With the March primary just a week away, Raja Kirishnamoorthi, a Congressional candidate from 8th District in Illinois, is inching closer to get Democratic nomination hands down on wider support from the community and mainstream media.
It was Daily Herald which had endorsed its support to Raja a few weeks ago and this week two leading newspapers with very large readership and following – Chicago Tribune and Sun Times – also announced their choice in favor of Raja. Raja’s rival in the Democratic field is Michael Noland.
Raja had earlier received support from a number of service organizations, top brass politicians including Senator Dick Durbin, Congresswoman Tami Duckworth and U.S. House Democratic Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer. Members of Indian and Pakistani community at large have extended their wholehearted support to Raja.
Indian community activists and supporters of Raja had organized a voters drive pitching for early voting, The early voting drive was organized at Trickster Art Gallery on Roselle Road in Schaumburg on Monday February 29 starting morning 9 am. J. Digvenkar, one of the organizers, said that the drive is not a one-day affair and will continue till the election day.
“Fortunately same day Raja is having final debate and lots of Media will be attending this debate and hence, the importance of the first day. We already had 200 plus people going for early voting till 11 am and hope more will follow by the time the day ends. One can register vote and vote at the same time,” he said.
