NEW DELHI: Home Minister Rajnath Singh appears to be the number two in the Union Cabinet.
This position emerges from an official notification from the Cabinet Secretariat on the working arrangements for disposal of urgent business during the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is on a visit to the US from September 25 to October 1.
“The Prime Minister has directed that during the period of his absence on foreign tour from 25th September to 1st October, 2014, urgent business may be put up before the Union Home Minister for disposal,” the order by Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth said.
A similar arrangement was also worked out during Modi’s visit to Brazil in July. Copies of the notification have been marked to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. -PTI
