Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone have been going to town about their lip lock in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Ram Leela’. Ranveer had gushed about the kissing scene in a recent interview, saying, “I hope that there will be no objection to the kiss because it’s a beautiful kiss. I hope they don’t cut the duration because it’s a long kiss. It’s the best kiss you’ll ever see in a Hindi movie.”
Now the actor’s fears have come true as the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) has been asked to tame the smooch. Bhansali has been asked to edit the steamy moment, which comes toward the film’s end, by a good 50 per cent.
A source said, “Bhansali had no choice but to comply. Else he wouldn’t have got a U/A certificate, which in turn would have cut down on the film’s reach.” A sociology professor was also summoned to attend the screening by CBFC. The film has been given 12 cuts in all and sources say that the nip and tuck could water down the passionate love story.
“Also Bhansali had some scenes in the film where people were shown drinking alcohol in Gujarat – a state which prohibits alcohol. Some hand gestures by Ranveer in the film were also found to be offensive and vulgar and objections were also raised against cuss words in the dialogues,” added the source.
Bhansali who was present at the Censor screening wasn’t too happy with the outcome, but chose to accept it gracefully. When contacted, CBFC’s CEO Manish Desai said, “We had to be ery careful with Ram Leela. Yes, we have made some deletions.”
