WASHINGTON: Indian Ambassador Nirupama Rao has written to Congressman Ed Royce of California thanking him for his leadership of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans.
Congressman Royce recently passed the Co-Chairmanship of House India Caucus to Congressman Peter Roskam of Illinois.
She said in the letter, “During the time I have served as India’s Ambassador to the United States, I have been fortunate to work closely with you on issues of great importance to both our countries. The diversification that has taken place over the past several years in the Global Strategic Partnership between India and the United States is in no small measure attributable to your long association with the India Caucus and the vision and diligence with which you have led it.
“The partnership between our two countries is fortunate to enjoy bipartisan support in the U.S. Congress, just as there is a strong consensus for this relationship across the political spectrum in India. I am thankful for your willingness to work across the aisle and with the large Indian American community in the United States to advance our shared values and common interests.”
She added, “I am delighted to learn that you will remain actively engaged in the work of the India Caucus. I once again wish you all success in your new and important assignment as the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and look forward to continuing our close cooperation to advance the India-U.S. strategic partnership through the 113thCongress and beyond.”
