CHICAGO: The Oklahoma State University recently announced a scholarship to a medical student to help her realize her dream in the healthcare field. The scholarship for freshman students entering into the medical field, especially for future doctors, contains substantial donations from successful businessmen and philanthropists like Indian scientist Dr Dayal Meshri.
Two years ago, T. Boone Pickens, A Texan oilman billionaire and corporate raider, challenged the donors that he would match two dollars for one dollar of each donation and the deadline was December 31, 2011.
Dr Meshri, a globetrotting scientist with huge consultation work across the three continents picked up Picken’s challenge and donated substantial amount in memory his late wife Dr Indu Meshri. The outcome was the establishment of “Dr Indu Meshri Scholarship”
Pickens graciously matched with two dollars for each dollar donated. As a result, today, the Dr Indu Meshri Scholarship for freshman medical students at Tulsa Campus has become the largest Freshman Scholarship at OSU. Ms Christine is the first recipient of Dr Indu Dayal Meshri Scholarship.
Now besides scholarships at North Gujarat University, there are three universities in this country – University of Idaho, University of Tulsa and Oklahoma State University “OSU” – that have Dr Indu Meshri Scholarships.
Amy Miller, senior director of development, Oklahoma State University Foundation said in a communication to Dr Meshri “Ms Christen is the first student impacted by the Indu Dayal Meshri Scholarship at OSU. She is so committed to medicine and is going to make a great doctor, like your daughter Gita.”
