MUMBAI: Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Haider’, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s famous dramatic masterpiece Hamlet, has swept six awards out of eight nominations in the technical awards category at this year’s International Indian Film Festival (IIFA).
The critically acclaimed film, a yet another adaptation work from Vishal Bhardwaj, has won the highest number of awards at India’s’ premier and most prestigious international award function.
This year’s International Indian Film Rocks and Technical Awards have been scheduled to take place on June 5 in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. This year’s Videocon D2H International Indian Film Awards Weekend celebration is also scheduled to commence from June 5-7 in Kuala Lumpur.
Haider won a total of 6 technical awards including: Costume Designing (Dolly Ahluwalia); Background Score (Vishal Bhardwaj);
Sound Mixing (Debajit Changmai); Sound Design (Shajith Koyeri);
Production Design (Subrata Chakraborty and Amit Ray); Makeup (Preetisheel Singh and Clover Wootton).
The film Haider starring Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead with Shahid playing the leading role of Haider has already won a national award. The story, though an adaptation of Hamlet, has been executed in keeping with the sense of aesthetics and creative sensibilities of the Indian audience. The film has already come across as a huge box office hit. Both Shahid Kapoor and the film Haider have received much adulation and recognition from the critics.
Aside from Haider, Kangana Ranaut starring successful film ‘Queen’ has bagged two awards at the IIFA. The two awards won are for Screenplay (Vikas Bahl, Chaitally Parmar and Parveez Shaikh) and Editing (Anurag Kashyap and Abhijit Kokate)
The Salman Khan starrer box office hit ‘Kick’ has also won two awards in two different categories at the IIFA this year, the first one being one for Choreography (Ahmed Khan) and the other for Special Effects Visual (Reupal Rawal).
Amir Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer ‘PK’ has bagged one IIFA award in the category of Dialogue (Abhijit Joshi and Rajkumar Hirani).
Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif starringfilm ‘Bang Bang’ has also won one award for Action (Parvez Shaikh and Andy Armstrong).
Shraddha Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra starrer ‘Ek Villain’ has won one award at the IIFA in the category of Song Recording (Eric Pillai).
Another screen adaptation work, Chetan Bhagat’s ‘2 States’ starring Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor has won one award in the category of Cinematography (Binod Pradhan).
