FREMONT, CA: Guru Poornima is celebrated on the full moon day that falls in July-August and is observed as an auspicious day where pujas are performed to the Guru. On the auspicious occasion, Shirdi Sai Darbar in Sunnyvale celebrated Guru Poornima on Sunday July 21 with offering of Chappan Bhog. All devotees were invited to bring their favorite food for Baba and about 3000 devotees came in for Baba Darshan. Baba Palki ceremony was performed in the evening around 6:00 pm.
Sai Baba of Shirdi, also known as Shirdi Sai Baba, was an Indian guru, yogi, and fakir who is regarded by his Hindu and Muslim devotees as a saint. He taught a moral code of love, forgiveness, helping others, charity, contentment, inner peace, and devotion to God and guru. Sai Baba’s teachings combined elements of Hinduism and Islam: he gave the Hindu name Dwarakamayi to the mosque he lived in, practiced Hindu and Muslim rituals, taught using words and figures that drew from both traditions, and was buried in Shirdi.
Shirdi Sai Darbar is a non-profit organization. It is based in Bay Area, California. It is a 100% volunteer base organization. All activities are managed by SSD volunteers. SSD new and current Baba temple location is at 255 Geronimo Way, Sunnyvale, CA-94085. This new location is located at the intersection of Wolfe and Arques Ave.
The landlord has given SSD limited time buying option with lease. The total area is 20,000 sq. ft. They would be allocating 10,000 sq ft for the main prayer hall and the rest for meditation and dining facilities. The facility has about 200 parking spaces. The space is already pre-approved for religious activities by the City of Sunnyvale. The estimated total cost for this project is $6 million. The immediate requirement is 3 million so that the rest can be approved through a lending institution.
The organization welcomes donations for the construction of new temple complex. They have introduced a unique donor program called “Donor Recognition Wall,” which will give you a chance to contribute towards building of Sai temple and have your name inscribed on the wall. Due to limited space, the wall will be filled quickly and thus they encourage the devotees to make the donations as soon as possible. The program will end on January 31, 2014 or when full capacity is reached.
