COIMBATORE: India has become the third largest source market for visitors’ arrival in Singapore after China and Indonesia, a senior official of the city-state’s tourism board has said. In the five-month period from January to May this year, a total 6.1 lakh people from India visited the country, Singapore Tourism Board’s International Group Regional Director, South Asia, Middle East and Africa G B Srithar told reporters here.
He said 2017 was a record year for the board as visitor arrivals from India crossed the one million mark for the third time in a row, showcasing the highest growth rate at 16 per cent in comparison with all markets. Noting that India has become the third largest source market for visitors’ arrival in Singapore, he said the board expected another good year as Indian travelers were showing keen interest to visit his country.
Similarly, India also continued to be the top source market for visitor arrivals in the cruise segment with 1.27 lakh passengers sailing out of Singapore’s shores last year, a year-on-year growth of 25 per cent from 2016, he said. Srithar was here as part of a road show to showcase Singapore with a theme “With passion, forging new Possibilities”. With the roadshow, the tourism board planned to deepen its existing partnership and foster new ventures with the travel trade partners, he said. PTI
