MEERUT: Suspected ISI agent Mohammad Eizaz, who was arrested by UP Task Force on November 27 with sensitive documents related to Indian Army, broke down after talking to his family in Pakistan over phone.
According to police sources, the nearly six-minute call was made after attaining a district court’s permission in this regard in order to establish the accused’s identity.
The call was also recorded, they said.
“Eizaz spoke to his mother Irshad Begum, sisters Shabnam, Shahzad and Shijida on the phone number of his brother Hadad alias Prince,” sources said.
He broke down after speaking to his mother, they said, adding that he told his mother about his arrest by the Indian agencies but assured her that he was fine.
“He also comforted her saying that he would return to his country soon,” they said.
A resident of Taramadi Chowk, Irfanabad, Islamabad, Pakistan, Eizaz was nabbed by a UP Special Task Force (STF) team from Meerut Cantt area while he was on his way to Delhi.
Documents related to Indian Army, Pakistani identity proof, fake voter identity of West Bengal, fake Aadhar card, Delhi Metro card, laptop and pen drives were recovered from his possession.
Eizaz was produced before a district court on Wednesday which sent him to six-day police custody.
Meanwhile, the accused was questioned by officials of UP Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), Military Intelligence and Intelligence Bureau apart from IG (Meerut Zone) Alok Sharma.
While refusing to divulge the details of the questioning, police said that Eizaz was quite clever and trying to mislead the investigation.
However, the magnitude of the information that he allegedly sent to the Pakistani spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the number of his possible partners in India, is being probed, sources added.–PTI
