HARARE: Netherlands Player of the Match against West Indies Logan van Beek expressed his relief after his team managed to clinch the victory in the CWC Qualifier 2023 match on Monday.
He took the fight with the bat against WI bowlers after the Netherlands ended up losing their set batters Teja Nidamanuru and Scott Edwards. His quick knock of 28(14) kept the Dutch team in the game despite the odds.
On the final two balls, Netherlands were just three runs away from victory. Van Beek pushed for a double to bring down the equation to one-in-one. However, in his attempt to secure victory, he ended up sending the ball in the air and Jason Holder took a diving catch to send the game to super over.
He showed his power hitting by scoring boundary on every single ball in Jason Holder’s over to set the target of 31. After the match, van Beek reflected on this moment and said, “I was pretty disappointed with the last ball that I chunked it to mid-on. Thankful that I got a little bit of redemption.”
He further went on to reveal the batting approach that worked for him so well during the final phase of the game.
“The amount of games I have lost from those situations, it was just satisfying to get across the line. I just backed my skill – if you miss, I am going to hit it. I thought I wanted to give myself a chance and when that 49th over came, I wanted to go after it,” van Beek added.
In the end, he revealed the importance that this victory holds and now has taken them a step closer towards the World Cup 2023 which is set to be held in India later this year.
“Massive. The culture that we have built and the learnings we have taken through the last 18-19 months. Now we have a chance to go to the World Cup in India and that is really huge,” van Beek signed off.
With this victory, Netherlands ended up in the second position of the Group A table with six points. (ANI)
