KOLKATA: Ruling Trinamool Congress has expressed happiness over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s acknowledgement in the Lok Sabha about the efforts of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in developing the state.
“Mamata Banerjee has been making tremendous efforts to develop the state for the last three years. He (Modi) has acknowledged that. We are happy,” TMC chief whip in the Lok Sabha Kalyan Banerjee told a local TV channel.
“My sister Mamata Banerjee is working really hard to undo the damage done in the past 35 years in West Bengal,” the prime minister had said while replying to a debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address.
CPI (M) MP Mohd Salim, however, alleged in a statement that the BJP and the TMC had covert understanding.
“It is to be seen how she (Mamata Banerjee) publicly reacts to it (Modi’s praise),” Salim said in a statement.
Salim and state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury both said Modi’s olive branch for the chief minister was aimed at ensuring TMC’s support in Rajya Sabha where the NDA did not have majority.–PTI
