PHAGWARA: US-based businessman and Punjabi singer Sukhdev Sahil was honored at Blood Bank Complex-the socio-cultural hub of Phagwara.
Prof Jaswant Singh Gandam, President Punjabi Virsa rust, Palahi/Phagwara and Gurmit Singh Palahi, its General Secretary, feted the NRI.
Hailing from village Madhopur of Phagwara sub-division but settled in San Francisco, Sahil was a very popular singer in Punjab before he left for the US 30 years ago.
‘Sufi gayaki’ is his forte. He has so far sung over 100 songs and performed at a large number of shows. Though he got cut off from regular singing owing to his business engagements in America, he remained associated there with ‘mehfils’, singing at select gatherings.
“Now I have returned to my first love by getting recorded songs in Mumbai”, says Sahil. “Actually, I have come to India for this purpose only”, he continues. “I am also building a new house in my native village Madhopur and plan to spend more time here in future”, he adds.
Dalit writer Dr SL Virdi presented a set of his books to Sahil. He was accompanied by Sonu Sahil and Varinder Kumar.
