‘Utsav’ celebrates life with song, dance & much more

web9SANTA CLARA: Star Plus TV in association with WomenNow, America’s first South Asian TV talk show, presented two day mega UTSAV 2012 on Oct 6 and 7 at Santa Clara Convention Center with the theme focusing on “Celebration of life”. It had the star talent contest comprising kids talent contest, teen and adult dance competition, cookery contest “Star chef” and quiz contest. The show also had scintillating Garba-Dandia Raas, Health Fair, exclusive Fashion Show and DJ Night by Paragon Studio.
Star chef cookery contest had 25 finalists and the main ingredient to be used was “Besan” and they were judged on five points namely taste, presentation, originality, nutrition and uniqueness. Judges for the show were Ashwini Kumar, Papiha Nandi and Sukhi’s Restaurant.
Singing and dancing competition had participants from age group ranging from kids, teens and adults. Folk, classical and group Bollywood were the different themes under which the contestants proved their talent and gave tough competition. Mukta and Jaya Sharma were the winners of singing competition. Nilanjali group and Supriya Puranik bagged the prizes on dance floor.
Health fair was conducted by Stanford Hospital, Elcamino Hospital and Davita. Dr Rashmi Jain MD, board certified nephrologist was present at the venue and she explained kidney related disease, switch to home dialysis, kidney friendly recipes and preventive measures one needs to take to keep the ailments at bay.
More than 20 million adults in the US have kidney disease, but most don’t know it, quotes Dr Rashmi. She was a part of Davita dialysis, second largest dialysis company in the nation and they primarily focus on ways to help home patients.
She explained about DaVita NephroLife, India’s first-of-its-kind renal disease management centre which offers affordable and holistic care for acute, chronic, and End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). It has centers in Bangalore, Chennai, Pondicherry, Hyderabad, Delhi, Pune and beyond.
Stanford hospital and clinics were a part of the free health fair and they educated the crowd on how to plan for a healthy heart and how one measures up.

They gave inputs on how to improve cholesterol with diet, exercise and medicines. Few quotes from Sadhna Sud, RN, BSN, Case Manager, Stanford for healthy living are eat at least 5 servings of vegetables and fruits everyday, 3 servings of fiber rich whole grains a day and eat fish at least twice a week.
Kriyaa dance academy performed at the Utsav. They specialize in classical, semi-classical, Bollywood, fusion and hip hop dances. It is been run by Art Director, Uma Dhanapal in Sunnyvale, Fremont, Mountain View. They have been the pioneer in Bay area events and have won many accolades since their launch in January 2010. They strongly believe in getting the best out of an individual and encourage students to perform and participate in solo events.
Star Quiz competition was conducted as a part of the event and it saw about 100 contestants from the Bay area. The event was sponsored by Winmax and Hooley Corporation. Questionable characters emerged as winner. Quizzing was on sports, Hollywood and current affairs.
Shopping occupied an imperative position in the event. The stalls were from all walks of life, food, clothing boutique, jewelry, real estate, Vastu consultants, non-profits, beauty salon, travels, designer lines, internet service provider, mortgage agent, yoga services, lason treatment clinics to name a few.
The food booth was catered by Madhuban Indian cuisine and they served the crowd with free kebab entrees. Clothing lines such as Outrage fashion, Vibha, Rang Bandhej, Neerant Couture, Gauri collections, AmitaBal, Chennai Tees, Leela Gutta, The Grand Trunk were present at the event and displayed their ethnic collections which ranged from sari, salwars, kurtis, skirts, lehengas. Heavy and regular office wear jewelry was an instant hit among the crowd.
Fashion show was the highlight of the show and prominent designers walked the ramp with exotic designs. The designers walked for unique theme and many prominent bay area ladies were a part of the show. DJ night, by Paragon Studios was with Dance Away theme and was attended by bay area desi and many defined it as a show with pomp.
The awards for the event were distributed by Dr. Romesh Japra, eminent cardiologist and Mr. Parthasarathy, Consulate General of India, San Francisco. Mr. Parthasarathi mentioned the event as the one which had the potential to bring out women’s talents and wished it continues for years to come.
“Women occupy an imperative position in family, work place and in society and shows such as these boost their energy and they can re-charge themselves”, said Dr. Romesh Japra. He said the fashion show was unique in its style and wished the winners and awarded them with Star Plus trophy, gifts from WinMax and Hooley.
Ena Sarkar, President CEO of WomenNow TV was happy that the event was an instant hit among the Indian community and said she wishes the event continues for years to come and entertains the Bay area people.
