CHICAGO: Enthusiasts of Holi don’t care about weather or month and this was proved again on Sunday at the FIA hosted Holi event in Hoffman Estates, where hundreds of fans and half a dozen elected officials showed up to join the festivities.
“It was a phenomenal event,” said Sunil Shah, Founder President of the Federation of Indian Associations. “We brought India to the northwest suburbs.” Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi was elated to see the huge crowd. “Your enthusiasm inspires all of us,” he said.
FIA President Mukesh Shah welcomed the audience, dignitaries, and the elected officials that included Consul D.P. Bhati, representing the Indian Consul General; Hoffman Estates Mayor Bill McLeod, State Senator Laura Murphy, and State Representative Michelle Mussman.
The program started with the melodious Bollywood songs sung by Mahijit Singh Virdi, Geetanjali Maru, Bhupendra Singh, Sameer Saini and Natasha Trikha. The singers regaled the crowd.
Dances by little kids were superb. Special appreciation goes to two dozen performers and their dance team – SSR Chicago, and their Choreographer Chinu Thottam.
FIA officials, guests and heads of numerous civic organizations came to the stage for the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. Noman Khan and Ravi Rawat entertained the audience with their masterful emceeing cues and jokes.
The live orchestra led by Sunny Jhadav and his team of “Man Pasand Music Masti” entertained the crowd to the fullest. Rita Singh, former FIA President, was highly impressed with the band’s performance.
