17-year-old student sets up Free Tutoring

article-webFREMONT, CA: After his grandmother passed away in the Summer of 2015, Ameek Singh, a 17 year old from Fremont and senior at The Harker School, decided to carry her legacy forward by helping deserving underprivileged students with a tutoring network, www.KidsTutoringFree.org. His system is a powerful recurring scheme that multiplies the effect of charity dollars.

Eleventh graders at the DAV Public School in New Delhi, India were given scholarships and stipends by Kids Tutoring Free to tutor up to four ninth graders each. These ninth graders then agreed to teach another four kids once they became eleventh graders. Students were selected for this program based on financial need and merit with the help of school officials.

During this past summer, Ameek traveled to India for three weeks to start his pilot project at the DAV Public School and MCD Elementary School in New Delhi, India. Sahaita.org, Bay area’s reputed NGO, agreed to fund Kids Tutoring Free and adopt it as one of their projects. Before this Ameek had worked with Homework express program in the local library and helped other youngsters that come to him for getting help with their studies.

All of the scholars in the Kids Tutoring Free are intelligent, caring and hard working. One example is of a student who lives in an extremely unstable home environment, where he has to take care of himself and his brother. Despite his hardships, he has the best grades in his class for three years continually and is on track to get admission at the Indian Institute of Technology, a top tier institution.

Ameek has achieved success with Kids Tutoring Free by focusing on creating a personal relationship with each one of the scholars in his program. He believes that education is the most important tool to achieve success, which is why he has also created Stockonomics, a foundation that motivates young students to learn about economics and finance.

Outside of Kids Tutoring Free, Ameek is passionate about economics, finance, computer science and entrepreneurship. He was placed second at Harvard’s Economics Challenge in USA and tenth at DECA’s International Career Development Conference (ICDC). In addition, he has cofounded his company, GHK Technologies Inc. In the future, Ameek hopes to be an impactful leader by giving back to the community that has made him what he is today.
