With a mission to foster togetherness and Sewa (selfless giving) for the welfare of society, by promoting the festive and enlightening spirit of Diwali, Dharmic/Indic communities across 32 states in USA came together to donate 630,660lbs (equals to 525,550 meals) of food in the month of October – November, 2022 as part of SewaDiwali food drive.
Sewa Diwali is an annual food drive and an initiative by all communities, organizations and individuals rooted in Dharmic values coming together during Diwali Festival across United States who believe in Sewa Dharma – “Service to Humanity is Service to Divinity”
As part of SewaDiwali, communities collect new, non-perishable food items and donate it to the local food pantries, food banks, shelters and to the needy people. Dharmic/Indic communities believe that the community that we live in is a form of extended family and so the Diwali celebrations should extend to everyone around us i.e.“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – The World is One Family.
San Francisco Bay Area SewaDiwali chapter held a closing ceremony on Sunday December 18, 2022 in Milpitas, CA in appreciation of everyone who participated and supported. Number of SewaDiwali partner organizations and beneficiary organizations attended. California State Assembly Member Alex Leewho attended the ceremony recognized the 2022 SewaDiwali food drive for the needy nationwide.
